About CVRS

Cray Valley Radio Society will celebrate its 60th anniversary in 2006. The club has had a long and successful history, and in recent years organised M2000A, the main special event station in the UK to celebrate the Millennium, followed two years later by the highly prestigious GB50 station at Windsor Castle for the Golden Jubilee of HM Queen Elizabeth II.

Meetings are held twice a month in Eltham, and provide facilities for those interested in amateur radio in South East London and surrounding areas. Meetings are on the first and third Thursdays of the month, with a full programme of lectures and other meetings. The Society is very active, with events ranging from the 2m DF Hunt to charitable support for the British Wireless for the Blind's (BWBF) Transmission weekend. CVRS also supports local scout groups in the JOTA weekend, enters VHF NFD and SSB FD, takes part in other national and international contests, and organises special event stations. In 2004 and 2005, a group of members operated from the Isles of Scilly.

The monthly magazine - 'QUA' - is crammed with information about the Society and features member's articles.

The highlight of 2004 was the DXpedition to the Isles of Scilly, where the team gained first place in the high power DXpedition category and was placed seventh in the Island multi-operator category using the club's contest callsign M8C. The team will collect their trophy at this year's HF & IOTA Convention. At the 2004 Convention, the SSB Field Day team collected the G3PSH Memorial Trophy for winning SSB Field Day in 2003 as G3RCV/P. CVRS was also the first winner of the BWBF's 'Club Winner' trophy for making most contacts - over 3000 - using GB2BF during Transmission 2004. Over the same weekend, a small group of members also activated GB2SJS for a local church event. The CVRS 'A' team was placed 4th in the 80m SSB AFS contest, and 5th in the new 80m Club Championship contests.

So far in 2005, Cray Valley has achieved the top spot in the RSGB 80m SSB AFS contest. We have again supported the RSGB 80m Club Championship contests and finished seventh. We are also supporting the RSGB 2m Club Championship contests and currently lie fourth. We organised special event station GB8OSJ, entered the IARU contest and VHF NFD, enjoyed another successful trip to the Isles of Scilly, and put in a good performance in SSB Field Day (G3RCV/P) and the 2m Trophy contest (M8C) in early September. We will be active as GB0SDS on 15 October - operating on behalf of the Sidcup District Scouts in Jamboree on the Air, and plan to put in a competitive entry to the CQ Worldwide SSB contest as M8C once we have finished operating as GB200T.
